A creamy and finely spiced red lentil dahl. Full of flavor and immensely tasty!

Ingredients

* Switch between cup/oz and g/ml in Account Settings*

  • Olive Oil Olive Oil 1 tbsp 1 tbsp
  • Yellow Onion Brown Onion 1 1
  • Ginger Root Ginger Root 1 tsp 1 tsp
  • Garlic Garlic 2 cloves 2 cloves
  • Mustard Seeds Mustard Seeds 1 tsp 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Garam Masala 1 tsp 1 tsp
  • Ground Cumin Ground Cumin 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp
  • Ground Turmeric Ground Turmeric 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp
  • Ground Cayenne Pepper Ground Cayenne Pepper 1/4 tsp 1/4 tsp
  • Red Lentils Red Lentils 200g 1 cup
  • Vegetable Stock Vegetable Stock 375ml 1 & 1/2 cup
  • Diced Tomatoes Chopped Tomatoes 400g 2 cups
  • Table Salt Table Salt pinch pinch

Instructions

  1. 1.Combine chopped onion, grated ginger, minced garlic and 1 tbsp water in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. 2.Add olive oil and mustard seeds to a skillet over medium heat and cook until seeds start to pop.
  3. 3.Add onion mixture and cook, stirring, for 8 to 10min until water has cooked out.
  4. 4.Add garam masala, cumin, turmeric and cayenne and cook for 3min until fragrant.
  5. 5.Add lentils and stir to coat.
  6. 6.Add vegetable stock and tomatoes, bring to boil, and reduce to simmer.
  7. 7.Cook for 20-30min or until lentils are cooked.
  8. 8.Remove from heat, using an immersion blender, pulse several times until desired consistency.
  9. 9.Add salt and pepper to taste, garnish with coriander leaves (cilantro) and serve with rice or flatbread.
