Plum Chocolate Spread

Just five everyday ingredients to make a gorgeous plum and chocolate spread. A healthier and more natural alternative to a typical shop-bought chocolate spread.

Ingredients

* Switch between cup/oz and g/ml in Account Settings*

  • Plum Plum 1000g 5 & 2/3 cups
  • Granulated Sugar Granulated Sugar 150g 3/4 cup
  • Table Salt Table Salt pinch pinch
  • Dark Chocolate Dark Chocolate 200g 1 & 1/2 cups
  • Custard Powder Vanilla Custard Powder Vanilla 300g 2 & 1/2 cups
  • Water Water 50ml 1/5 cup

Instructions

  1. 1.Take the kernels out of all plums and cut them into quarters. Add them to a saucepan and bring to boil on medium heat (no need to add water). Add the sugar and the salt and stir well while it starts boiling.
  2. 2.Once it’s boiling the plum will start to lose water, so make sure to stir every 5 min for about 30 min until the mix becomes less watery. Blend the plums until it becomes a smooth liquid.
  3. 3.Add the custard powder to 50ml of cold water and stir thoroughly. Then add this liquid to the plums while stirring constantly. The texture will become stickier once the starch has cooked well into the mix.
  4. 4.At the end break the chocolate into small pieces (max 2x2 cm) and add into the hot mix. Turn off the heat but leave the pot on the stove. Stir until chocolate is completely melted.
  5. 5.Fill into jars and close immediately before refridgerating for later use.
